[vc_row][vc_column][vc_custom_heading text=”Information Technology” font_container=”tag:h2|text_align:left|color:%231e73be” use_theme_fonts=”yes”][vc_separator color=”juicy_pink”][vc_column_text]The course of Information Technology ICT’s main aim is to develop caring and responsible students, able to solve not only academic but everyday problems, to respond reflectively and creatively to the needs of a society increasingly immersed in the information technology, and to understand the importance of this discipline in the development of their community and the impact on the environment.[/vc_column_text][vc_custom_heading text=”Primary” font_container=”tag:h3|text_align:left|color:%23dd3333″ use_theme_fonts=”yes”][vc_column_text]Technology is an integral part of the daily life of students. In their early years, children become familiar with computers through educational games. The learning process puts special emphasis on the recognition of hardware and software, the proper use of the keyboard and the mouse. For this reason, the Clic 3.0 Software has been chosen, because it allows children to develop their learning abilities of higher-order (creativity, ability to solve problems, critical thinking, etc.). Throughout their primary education, students are also introduced to the use of tablets and its importance in the safe search for information and to the use of educational applications developed for such a device.

The aims and objectives of ICT in Lower School are to ensure that all children have the opportunity to:

• Develop their skills on the proper use of ICT, including their knowledge and understanding of the importance of the information and how to choose and prepare it.
• Broaden their skills in the use of hardware and software to manage the information throughout their problem solving process, the recording and printing of the job.
• Increase their ability to apply their knowledge of IT and ICT to further develop their use of language (communication) and their learning in other areas.
• Explore their attitudes towards ICT, their values and their environment; also to make them aware of its advantages and limitations.

[/vc_column_text][vc_custom_heading text=”Secondary” font_container=”tag:h3|text_align:left|color:%23dd3333″ use_theme_fonts=”yes”][vc_column_text]At the start of their secondary education, students must aim to become better users of web 2.0 tools and choose adequate sources of information from the net, in order to achieve a better understanding of how information technologies can facilitate their work in other disciplines and develop their ability to judge when and how to use them.

In grades 8 and 9, students take the course of STEM  ( Science , Technology , Engineer and Maths )  in this course the students get involved  in transversal technology projects to improve his environment . In STEM  science and technology  is introduced and put into practice of programming, design, electronics, computational thinking and design thinking. St Georges College has state-of-the-art equipment to improve learning experiences using technology. We are sure that this transversal course will be of great help in all the other courses that are taught in the curriculum.[/vc_column_text][vc_separator][vc_column_text]Finally in grades 10 and 11, students may choose to pursue the course of Information Technology in a Global society of the IB Diploma programme, which allows them to analyse the social impact and ethical use of technology originating in modern times. It is a very friendly course for the development of critical thinking for people considered to be digital natives or who like to keep up to date in the use of information technologies. This course is offered at both higher and standard levels.

At our campus in Villa there is a laboratory of all-in-one PCs and other portable laptops with Internet connection by wi-fi. We have also begun introducing the use of tablets to work with simulators and analysis of texts used in the different courses.[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row]
